Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG) has helped its tenants receive nearly £3million of income in the past year.

Money and Benefits teams at GUHG’s subsidiaries, Aragon Housing Association and South Northants Homes (SNH), have worked on nearly 1,200 cases in the past 12 months, ensuring that a wide range of their tenants are receiving the money they are entitled to.

This help has ranged from assisting with budgeting and debt advice, looking into whether they are entitled to certain benefits, making sure they are on the best tariffs for their utilities and much more.

Gill Higginson, Head of Housing and Communities at GUHG, said: “We’re committed to supporting our tenants in improving their quality of life and it’s not all about the financial side of things. The teams have been securing food parcels, attending tribunal hearings to advocate for tenants, supporting them to access financial products and to register for further education, skills and employment.

“Some residents have been struggling with the changes to the benefits system, as they can be complex and difficult to understand, so professional support can make a real difference.”

One tenant who used the service at Aragon, said: “I cannot say how much I value and admire your officer. She has brought order out of chaos, done everything I asked of her and was always steady, supportive and caring even in difficult circumstances. She always does what she says she will and is incredibly kind and understanding. For the first time in years I felt respected and supported and that I actually mattered.”
